Frenuloplasty
Frenuloplasty is a surgical procedure that renews or lengthens the frenulum, a thin skin or mucous membrane fold located on the underside of the penis or the oral cavity. The frenulum is a natural structure of the body that helps maintain stability and control over the movements of the penis or oral cavity during sexual intercourse or speaking. In men, frenuloplasty is usually performed if the frenulum is too short or if it has ruptured during sexual intercourse or masturbation. This procedure can help improve the sensitivity of the penis and reduce pain during sexual intercourse.
HOW IS IT PERFORMED?
Frenuloplasty is a surgical procedure that is usually performed under local anesthesia, and, at the patient's request, under general anesthesia. The procedure typically takes about 30-45 minutes, depending on the complexity of the case. During the procedure, the surgeon usually begins by sterilizing the area around the penis, then applies local anesthesia to ensure complete painlessness during the operation. After the anesthesia takes effect, the surgeon carefully cuts the frenulum along the center and separates it from the surrounding tissue. Then the reconstruction of the frenulum is performed, usually by stitching the remaining parts or implanting tissue grafts. After the procedure, the patient will typically need to rest in a hospital room for a few hours. The patient will receive instructions on how to care for the operated area and what to expect during the recovery period, which can last for several days or weeks, depending on the complexity of the procedure. It is important to note that, like all surgical procedures, there are risks and possible complications, such as bleeding, infections, scarring, or loss of sensitivity in the penis. Therefore, it is important to discuss all potential risks and benefits of frenuloplasty with your doctor before deciding to undergo this procedure.
HOW TO PREPARE?
Preparing for frenuloplasty involves several steps to ensure a successful procedure and a quick recovery afterward. Here are some key steps to prepare for frenuloplasty:
- Consultation with the doctor: The first step in preparing for frenuloplasty is a consultation with your doctor. They will review your health status and medical history, assess the condition of the frenulum, and discuss expectations, risks, and benefits of the procedure with you.
- Inform the doctor about medications: Inform your doctor about all medications you are taking, including vitamins, supplements, and herbal remedies. Some medications may affect the procedure or cause bleeding during the surgery, so the doctor may ask you to temporarily stop taking some of them.
- Stop smoking: Smoking can slow the healing process and increase the risk of complications during and after the procedure. Therefore, if you smoke, the doctor will likely recommend that you quit smoking before the procedure.
- Stop taking aspirin: Aspirin and other blood-thinning medications can increase the risk of bleeding during the procedure. Therefore, the doctor may recommend that you stop taking these medications a few days before the procedure.
