Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure for removing excess skin, fat tissue, and muscles from the upper or lower eyelids. It is usually performed to improve the appearance of the eyes and eliminate aesthetic imperfections, such as prominent bags under the eyes or wrinkles on the upper eyelids. During the procedure, the surgeon cuts away excess skin, fat tissue, and/or muscles of the eyelids. After that, the skin will be stitched together to restore eyelid function and improve the appearance of the eyes. The duration of the procedure can vary from a few hours to one hour, depending on the complexity of the surgery.
WHEN IS IT INDICATED?
Blepharoplasty is usually indicated when the patient has:
- Wrinkles on the upper eyelids that reduce the field of vision or create a tired or sleepy appearance.
- Bags under the eyes caused by excess fat tissue.
- Overhanging upper and lower eyelids that impair vision and create a tired appearance.
- Lack of contour on the upper eyelids that creates a tired or sleepy look.
Overall, blepharoplasty is used to improve the appearance and function of the eyelids. It is generally recommended for patients who are in good health and who have realistic expectations regarding the results of the procedure.
