Ultrasound of blood vessels

Ultrasound of blood vessels is a non-invasive diagnostic method that uses high-frequency sound waves to visualize blood vessels in the body. Ultrasound of blood vessels is often used to assess blood flow, detect narrowing of blood vessels, identify blood clots, and monitor the effectiveness of treatment. Ultrasound of blood vessels is a safe, non-invasive, and painless procedure and does not involve radiation, making it a safe option for most patients. With ultrasound, we most often observe the blood vessels of the neck, leg, arm, and abdomen.

HOW IS IT PERFORMED?

The procedure is usually performed while lying on your back on a bed or table, and when examining the legs, also on the legs. The physician will apply gel to the skin in the area to be examined to allow for better contact between the skin and the ultrasound probe. Then, the probe is gently pressed against the area of skin and moved over the blood vessel area being examined. During the examination, you may need to change your body or limb position to allow for a better examination of the blood vessels. In some cases, the physician may ask you to hold your breath for a few seconds during the examination to reduce vibrations in the chest, which can make the examination more difficult.

HOW TO PREPARE?

No special preparation is usually needed before the procedure itself. It is advisable to wear light clothing so that it can be removed if necessary. If you have previous recordings or other significant medical documentation, bring them with you. After the examination, you can immediately continue with your daily activities, and results are available right after the procedure.

EXPECTED DURATION OF THE PROCEDURE

The procedure lasts between 20 and 30 minutes.
